During a stay in Charleston, South Carolina I stumbled across this Fire Museum and Educational Center. The North Charleston Fire Museum has been around since 2007. It’s the home of the largest collection of fully restored American LaFrance fire apparatus in the U.S. There’s over twenty fully restored fire vehicles to see as well as a collection of priceless antique firefighting artifacts.
The museum provides a great educational experience for children of all ages complete with interactive exhibits, hands-on equipment and a functioning fire pole for children to slide down. A fire engine driving simulator, that even I enjoyed, lets you feel the shake of the diesel-powered engine on its route to a fire with you, the driver, operating the siren and warning horn.
The immersive theatre experience “Are You an Escape Artist” features live smoke and water.
A visit will provide a great learning experience about fire safety and prevention for all ages.
